Braintree Town manager Jamie Day was pleased to see the reaction that he wanted from his players at Guiseley to the strong words he had to say after their previous outing.

The Iron bounced back after two Vanarama National League defeats to take a point from their trip to Guiseley as it ended 0-0 in Yorkshire.

While Day admitted that his team needed to be a stronger attacking force, it was an improved performance from the one against Torquay in the game before.

Day was critical of his players after that game, saying some didn't show the desire he expected to see, however, he was pleased to see that they had responded to his words at Guiseley.

He said: "The Torquay game was poor and at least we came to Guiseley and the boys worked their socks off.

"They reacted to what was said last week.

"It was about stopping the rot from the two games beforehand.

"Coming away from home, regardless of who you're playing, you want a clean sheet first of all before you go looking for the three points.

"For me, it was about the reaction from the Torquay game, which I got and the boys worked hard.

"We just needed to show a bit more quality in front of goal."

It was a game where defences were largely on top for both sides and Day was pleased to see that aspect of his team's play as they kept a clean sheet on the road, but he admitted that they need to be more clinical at the other end.

"I thought our shape was good," he added.

"To go to Guiseley and get a point and keep a clean sheet was pleasing.

"We obviously need to work on going forward a little bit more, though.

"We defended well and I thought we looked comfortable but I felt we didn't do enough going forward.

"It's something that may take some time but we have to work on it because we got into some good areas and the final pass let us down or shots didn't hit the target.

"You can't go into away games and defend for 90 minutes or put yourself in positions like that and we need to create a bit more going forward."
