Chez Isaac knows that it is heart that has earned Braintree Town its success in the top flight of English non-league football and the Iron midfielder wants them to put a “bad day at the office” behind them quickly.

Manager Jamie Day felt the passion he wanted to see from his team was lacking in their 3-1 Vanarama National League defeat by Torquay United on Monday and Isaac agreed that it had not been a good enough performance.

However, he feels this new group of players have shown that they can compete and wants them to show it again at Guiseley on Saturday.

Isaac said: “I can see where people’s frustration was coming from as we weren’t on it against Torquay.

“We felt we were a little hard done by at Barrow in the previous game, but it was poor all-round with two sloppy goals that we conceded.

“That’s frustrating and I don’t think there were any positives that we could take really.

“There were positives against Barrow and we felt we could have got a point there, but it was just a bad day at the office against Torquay.

“People talk about passion and there were some people who weren’t on it for whatever reasons but it just wasn’t happening.

“However, I know we’re a new group, but we’ve shown that we can do it.

“We just have to put it behind us.

“Since I’ve been at this club our strength has been all about out togetherness.

“We’re not a club that has the top level of finances but the one thing we do have is heart.

“It was frustrating against Torquay but we have to go away and work on it.”

Last year’s trip to Guiseley included a goal that the then manager Danny Cowley branded the worst thing he had seen in football as the hosts scored after the ball had been put out by the Iron to allow treatment to an injured player.

Although Isaac said there is a desire to set the record straight, though, it is the current need for points that is most pressing.

He added: “We are very annoyed about what happened at Guiseley last year and the new lads are aware of that, but it’s all about us getting a run going.

Two losses on the bounce – four losses from seven games – we need to get some points on the board and there is that as well as wanting to set things right from last year.”
