Once the hectic first part of the Vanarama National League season is finished, Braintree Town boss Jamie Day says he will sit down with his management team to assess whether they feel a need to make changes to their squad.

It has been a busy opening spell for Day and his players, with Saturday’s trip to Barrow AFC and Monday’s home game against Torquay United taking their tally to seven matches in 24 days.

It is a period that has given the new Iron manager a chance to get a proper look at his new players and to give everyone a chance to show what they can do, but he said he is now expecting to review whether any changes need to be made.

Day said: “Everyone needs to get their opportunity when you have a new bunch of players and I think we’ve done that, but after this weekend we will perhaps sit down as a management team and with the chairman to assess any areas where we may need to strengthen the squad.

“But people should be given a decent run of games before you assess things.”

Aside from first-half performances against Macclesfield and Maidstone, the Iron boss has been largely pleased with how his team have bedded in together, however, he admits he wants to see them have more of a cutting edge up front.

He added: “We looked solid against North Ferriby, Eastleigh and Aldershot when our shape was pretty good.

“We worked as a team to get those results, but I was disappointed with the other two (against Macclesfield and Maidstone).

“What I also want to see is us creating a few more chances than we have.

“That’s something we may have to look at and maybe be a bit more adventurous going forward, then we have to make sure we have an end product by getting someone on the end of the final pass.

“That’s possibly been a bit difficult to work on as we’ve been working hard on the team’s shape and with only having them together for brief training sessions twice a week, we haven’t been able to do everything.

“It’s difficult and part of being a part-time team as you can’t do everything and we have had to look at what our priorities are.”
