Braintree Town's scheduled preseason fixture against Southend United has been postponed.

The League One side had been due to travel to face Jamie Day's team on Saturday, but have decided not to play it now because of the condition of the Avanti Stadium pitch.

Work has been done this summer to install improved drainage on the pitch and the surface hasn't recovered sufficiently for the game to be played.

Braintree said they had invited the Shrimpers to inspect the pitch to see if they felt it could go ahead but they had opted not to play.

A further inspection will be made ahead of Tuesday's game against Gillingham.
