Braintree Town will kick off their life under new manager Jamie Day with an away day at Vanarama National League new boys North Ferriby United.

The Iron will head to the Vanarama National League North champions for the 2016/17 season's opener on August 6, before returning home for two back-to-back home games against more familiar opposition in Eastleigh and Macclesfield Town on August 9 and 13 respectively.

Braintree chairman Lee Harding had mixed feelings about the start that the fixtures planners have handed his team.

He told the Braintree and Witham Times: "Looking at the fixtures, it could have been easier and it could have been a tougher start for us.

"Historically, I always hope to avoid the new boys until half a dozen games into the season as promoted teams always seem to come up with a point to prove and they can be dangerous.

"North Ferriby have done very well to get up and I think it will be a stiff test for us."

However, Harding is very happy with the Christmas scheduling for Braintree with home and away dates against Dagenham and Redbridge for his club, with the Daggers visiting the Avanti Stadium on Boxing Day and the return trip on New Year's Day.

"I'm very pleased with the Christmas and New Year games," added Harding.

"They will be cracking games against our friends from Dagenham and Redbridge."

Easter action will see Guiseley visit the Iron on Good Friday, before an Easter Monday trip south to Torquay United on Easter Monday.

The return trip to Guiseley, a fixture which threw up controversy last year with a much-debated goal that earned the hosts a point, is due to take place at the start of September.

Other games to catch the eye are the home encounter against Tranmere Rovers on November 19, while former Braintree boss Danny Cowley's Lincoln City will be the Iron's hosts at Sincil Bank on October 1, and the Imps head to Essex on January 28.

Braintree's season is due to conclude on April 29 with a trip to Aldershot Town.
