Braintree Town's attacking threat has been handed a significant boost with the signing of striker Jack Midson from Eastleigh.

The 32-year-old has joined the Iron and along with Lee Barnard and Michael Cheek will provide a formidable front line that manager Jamie Day feels will bring goals this season.

Day said: "Jack has a lot of experience at this level and above and I think he has a point to prove as he didn't score as many goals as he would have liked last year.

"I'm so pleased to have got him as his record shows what a fantastic player he is.

"We have three lads now who can score goals and if they perform to the levels that we know they can, we can expect 15 goals apiece from them and hopefully more.

"We now have the people on board to get us goals.

"I think Braintree were fantastic last year and we are looking to carry on the defensive work, but we're hoping to be a bit more attacking with the three lads on board with us."

Midson started his career as a trainee at Stevenage, before making a move to Bishop's Stortford and then to Histon, where enjoyed a successful season and a half and his 25 goals in 67 games played an important part in the Bridge Road side that reached the Conference Premier play-offs.

Five years followed in the Football League, the first two seasons at Oxford United the next three at AFC Wimbledon, where Midson scored 38 goals in 126 games, before spending the past two years at Eastleigh.
