BRAINTREE Town chairman Lee Harding is delighted with the response the club has had to its cut-price season ticket offer.

The club are offering fans the chance to snap up season passes that will get them into the team's 23 Vanarama National League home games next year for as little as £6.50 per game, but those still to take advantage of the offer will have to be quick as the deadline for applications is on Saturday.

However, plenty have already done so and Harding said it has been a record number of sales unsurpassed in his 13 years at the club.

"We're very pleased with the take up of the offer," he said.

"In previous years, we've seen season ticket sales in the tens, but now we're looking into the hundreds and that's very encouraging.

"It's certainly the best during my time with the club.

"In previous years we've also benefited from the allocation of free season tickets to under-18s and that's still to start.

"Details of that offer for under-18s will be announced on Monday so I'd encourage people to look on the club website then, but we are confident that this year will see records broken as there has been a lot of interest."

The offer has come about thanks to sponsorship from both the Community Iron scheme and Braintree Town Youth, which is affiliated to the senior club.

Adult seated season tickets have been reduced from the initial early bird discounted price of £306 to a price of just £160.

That works out at a cost of less than £7 per game, with ground season tickets cut, to £150 - or £6.50 per game.

Concession seat season ticket prices have been halved to £110 and ground concession prices are at £100.

Harding added: "We feel it is very competitively priced and if you are a regular supporter, it's a cracking deal.

"It's about getting the balance right and hopefully we are tempting those who would come at various times to commit for the whole season.

"The proof of the pudding will obviously be in the eating, but we are confident that we have got it right and people have until Saturday to register their interest.

"After Saturday the prices will go up to the normal level, which is still cracking value, but obviously not as good as the deal at the moment.

"We're working hard with the season ticket deal to build a ground swell of support for the club in the coming years.

"It would be nice to build that close to a gate of a thousand on a regular basis as that would be a significant step for us.

"With moves to build the new stadium, we hope we are looking more and more attractive to football fans and we can keep pushing on."

Anyone who would like to apply for a cut-price ticket should email priority@braintreetownfc.org.uk before Saturday and details for under-18s wishing to secure their free season tickets will be announced on Monday.
