Sean Marks has announced that he has decided to leave Braintree Town.

The 30-year-old striker said on his personal Twitter feed that he had taken the decision to move on as he wanted to look for more starts in games than he had had last season.

Marks, who has made more than 200 appearances for Braintree since joining from Heybridge Swifts and was part of the team that earned promotion from the Conference South in 2011, played 36 games for the Iron last season, but the majority of them were from the bench.

He said on his Twitter account: "It is with a heavy heart and a host full of memories that I have decided to leave @braintreetownfc.

"I have enjoyed every minute I have been there but the time is now for a new challenge and to get back starting football matches and enjoying playing again.

"@braintreetownfc has provided me with a platform to play and to say I have been on the complete journey to national league and be top goal scorer for them at the highest level the club have ever been is an achievement I am proud of.

"The club is in good hands and will be for a long time. Thank you."

Marks' decision came on the same day that the club annoucned that Jamie Day had been appointed as first-team manager following the depature of DannY Cowley.
