Danny Cowley says he will be taking time to review his position as Braintree Town manager following the conclusion of the Vanarama National League season.

The Iron boss - together with his brother and assistant manager Nicky - led them to arguably the club's greatest-ever season in their first campaign at the helm as they finished a record third in the top flight of non-league football.

They were then only denied a Wembley play-off final by an extra-time goal in a 2-1 aggregate defeat by one of the National League's biggest clubs, Grimsby Town, last weekend.

And while there was ultimately disappointment at having missed out on a place at Wembley, such success as the club has had under the Cowley brothers has inevitably caught the eye of football clubs beyond Essex.

Reports have suggested that the pair are heading away from Braintree, with one club in the frame being named as Lincoln City, however, Danny has told the Braintree and Witham Times that such speculation is jumping the gun.

Danny admitted there had been "a couple of approaches" from clubs while the season was still ongoing but said he owed it to Braintree, their players and fans to not act on them yuntil the final ball had been kicked.

He said he was still coming to terms with the disappointment of his team's defeat by Grimsby, but did add that he and Nicky were now reviewing their position in light of offers that had been put forward and were still on the table.

Danny said: "To be honest, at the end of the season, all of our focus was on Braintree and we owed it to the club, the supporters and the players who had worked so hard to do that.

"I've loved my first year at Braintree - it's been great and they they have given me a real opportunity to manage at this level.

"We had to focus on the journey and making sure that we gave it all our energy.

"We made sure that we never talked to anybody else until the season had concluded because I'm a great believer that if you want to be a good manager, you put your players first and yourself second.

"We're now working to get over the disappointment of Sunday and then we will make a decision over our future.

"We'll take that time because, whatever happens next, I believe you don't make decisions in emotional moments, which this still is.

"I just want to take an opportunity to draw breath.

"We have had contact from clubs, but they were all told the same thing - that we wouldn't speak to anybody until the season had concluded and we'd had the chance to draw breath.

"I know the club (Braintree) are aware that there has been interest, but I'm just respectful of the timing after the disappointment of Sunday.

"I've said that we can't make intelligent decisions unless we have all the information in front of us so we will take time to review the situation.

"I will look to get over the disappointment, then weigh up the options and make a decision from there.

"But I have such a good relationship with Braintree's fans and the players that any decision I have to make will be a very difficult one."

However, Danny said there was no connection between him reviewing his position as Braintree manager and an advert being placed to advertise for a new head of PE at the Fitzwimarc School in Rayleigh - a position the Iron boss holds as a day job at the moment.

He added: "It's just been really tough to combine being head of department with managing a football club at this level and this position being advertised is just about easing my workload a little bit.

"The school are trying to accommodate me as best as they can, for which I'm really grateful, but this was first advertised about six weeks ago, well before the end of the season."
