Getting into the end-of-season play-offs may have seemed like a dream to many Braintree Town fans, but manager Danny Cowley won’t let any lack of ambition creep in now.

The Iron boss insists that a history-making top-five finish in the Vanarama National League is just the start and doesn’t want his team to miss out on the opportunity in front of them.

Their incredible journey is set to continue at Grimsby tomorrow in the first leg of the play-off semi-finals, with the return leg at the Avanti Stadium on Sunday.

And while it is a new experience for the Iron compared to Grimsby, who only lost out in a penalty shoot-out in the play-off final last year, Cowley knows his team will be up for the challenge.

“The journey isn’t finished,” he said.

“Finishing third is only part of it.

“We might be Braintree Town and people may think our season is all about getting into the play-offs, but now we’re in there, as far as I’m concerned the play-offs give you an opportunity.

“And it’s an opportunity we want to take.

“Grimsby are a fantastic team with a really good management.

“They’ve been there before so that will help them in terms of their experience but we have absolutely no pressure on us.

“We’ll dust ourselves off and we’ll use our time intelligently in time for Thursday."
