Cressing karting ace Tyrone Stansfield had to be content with a third-place finish in the overall standings of the Easykart British Cadet Championships after the final round of action at Buckmore Park in Kent.

The 13-year-old Alec Hunter Academy pupil knew it was a straight shootout between him and his main rival in the final race of the season to see who would take second place in the final championship standings.

Unfortunately for Stansfield, who is sponsored by G & B Finch and K & B Tatam, he wasn’t able to do that, so he had to be content with third spot, however, he can take some consolation from a call-up to the UK team for the Easykart World Finals in Italy next month.

The action at Buckmore Park saw Stansfield qualify sixth, but he kept ahead of his rival to take fifth in the heat race and stay second overall.

Taking third in the pre-final then meant Stansfield headed into the final sitting joint second overall and knowing that whoever finished highest between him and his rival would end the season with the silver medal.

The final saw the Cressing youngster start third, but he dropped back and even though he ended just 0.563 seconds behind his rival in sixth, he had to be content with a third-place finish overall.

Stansfield said: “I was disappointed, but unfortunately that is motorsport.”

It was his last race in the cadet ranks and he will be stepping up into the juniors next year, which is also the level he will race at when on UK team duty at the Easykart World Finals in Italy.

Stansfield is now looking for extra sponsorship from local companies to help advance his racing career at the higher level and anyone interested can get in contact by emailling lstansfield73@talktalk.net
