Braintree Town manager Danny Cowley is making sure that his players don’t get carried away by their recent successes in the Vanarama National League.

Having lost their opening two games under the managerial control of Cowley after he took over the reins last summer, the Iron have gone on to lose just once in their next nine ahead of tonight’s home game against Woking (kick-off 7.45pm).

That run has included some superb away form that has seen them take 13 points from a possible 15 on the road and has propelled them up to seventh in the Vanarama National League table.

They are only two points off the top-five play-off places, however, Cowley is staying cautious and is demanding that his players focus on continuing the hard work that has brought them success so far rather than being distracted by positions in the table.

“It’s good but it’s important that we don’t get carried away,” he said.

“That is the key because we are a team that has to work very hard to get any success.

“We have to keep remembering our core values and keep making sure that we give ourselves an opportunity to be competitive in games.

“We can do those things and I keep saying to the boys in the dressing room that we must have high expectations and demands of ourselves.

“We have really good players in that dressing room but we can’t get away from our core values.

“They are hard work, determination and being willing to out-run the person you are playing against.”

Braintree head into tonight’s game against fifth-placed Woking on the back of a rousing 4-0 win at Altrincham last weekend.
