Witham Town manager Garry Kimble is hoping that their fans will stay patient as they look to find their feet in Ryman League division north this season.

It hasn’t been the start to the campaign that anyone at the Village Glass Stadium wanted with last weekend’s 2-1 defeat by Phoenix Sports meaning they had taken just one point from their opening three leage outings.

And they bowed out of the Robert Dyas League Cup with a 3-2 defeat by Maldon and Tiptree in midweek.

Witham head to Bury Town in division north on Saturday looking to cut out the mistakes that have proved costly in the early part of the season, but Kimble knows his team is a “work in progress”.

He was only able to hold on to five members of last year’s squad so needs his new players to gel and hopes their supporters will stay patient.

Kimble said: “A poor start can affect you as it puts pressure on everyone at the club, but once we get the first win in the league then everyone will be happy.

“In the last couple of games we haven’t looked that bad, but we’d like to be in a better position than we are in the table after the first three games.

“It has to be about patience from the supporters as we have had a big rebuilding job to do this summer.

“We are a work in progress to be fair.

“That’s what it is and we aren’t far short, but individual errors and not making the right decisions at the right times have hurt us in our three league games so far.

“I was expecting it, though, as we’ve had so many changes and it will take five or six games for people to gel, but we have to make sure we are picking up points along the way.

“We have been playing OK, but we must cut out the silly mistakes.

“We’re a work in progress but hopefully we can change our fortunes quickly.”
