Bowlers from Braintree Bowling Club have shown their prowess at different levels of the game.

Essex Two Woods Singles champion Donna Law made her debut at the Bowls England National Championships at Royal Leamington Spa. Law had progressed through the county’s early rounds of this competition and gained a place in the Essex County Women’s Bowling Association final at Gidea Park.

She met Sue Wild of Rainham and took the match 14-10, with both going on to represent Essex at the national championships.

Law was knocked out in the first round by Karen Leader of Huntingdonshire club Sawtry, though.

A very close match went to the final end with Law beaten 17-14, however, Leader went on to reach the semi-finals, which gave a true reflection of the Braintree player’s achievement at her first national championships.

Meanwhile, Chris Long and Malcolm Stark have reached the finals of the North West Essex Bowling Association pairs competition by beating a duo from Halstead in the semi-finals.

They will face Adrian Papple and Karl Lodge of Silver End in the final at Elsenham on September 13.

Both of Braintree’s A and B teams have won their respective divisions in the Central Midweek Bowling League. The A team came out top in division four, while the B team won division five.

The Annual Open Foursomes was played at Braintree and was well attended by several strong club teams from all over the county.

The final was over nine ends and resulted in Braintree’s team of Donna Law, Martin Law, Jack Mumford and Josh Heffernan winning the trophy by beating Ilford.

After a very close opening to the game, the Braintree quartet held an unassailable nine-shot winning margin at the finish.
