Alex Lynn won’t give up on the GP2 Series title until the maths prove that he can’t win it in his rookie season.

The 21-year-old racing driver from Dunmow headed into the second half of the GP2 season in stunning style by taking his maiden pole position and feature race win in Hungary four weeks ago.

It meant Lynn came away sitting fifth in the standings of the main feeder championship into Formula One and 109 points behind leader Stoffel Vandoorne.

However, with his DAMS Racing car showing good pace in the last few rounds and after his successes in Hungary, Lynn is targeting a move up the GP2 standings.

And he will have a chance to do that this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium.

Lynn said: “The win (in Hungary) has now put me well in the hunt for second in the championship.

“Of course, I’ll try to win the championship as long as it’s mathematically possible, but Stoffel is comfortably ahead and second is still a good target in my rookie GP2 season. I’ve just got to keep on building on the foundations we’ve got now.”

GP2 qualifying in Belgium will start tomorrow at 2.55pm (British time), with the feature race taking place at 2.40pm on Saturday and the sprint race at 9.35am on Sunday.
