Braintree Town manager Danny Cowley was delighted to see his team secure their first Vanarama National League win since he took over as manager.

Goals from Dan Sparkes and new loan signing Jordan Chiedozie secured a 2-1 win at Bromley.

However, the Iron boss wants his players to learn from the latter stages of the game when he felt they could have managed a comeback from the hosts in the final 20 minutes.

“We are pleased to get the win,” Cowley said.

“Sometimes you just have to get over the line.

“I thought we had good control for the first 70 minutes and deserved to be two nil up.

“They then scored, which was kind of against the run of play, and it changed the momentum of the game.

“I thought we needed a bit more game management and more intelligence in the last 20 minutes.

“I felt we could have managed that period a little better than we did but when you are working as hard as our boys have done since the beginning of June, they are going to be a bit anxious and nervous to get their first win.

“So we understand that and have to make sure that when we are in a situation like that again, we control it a little bit better.”

Cowley included both of the loan signings that he had made earlier in the day as striker Cheidozie, who had joined from Cambridge United, and Brighton defender Tom Dallison made positive impacts.

The Iron boss added: “They both came in and made an impact.

“Nicky (assistant boss Nicky Cowley) and I work really hard to get out and watch as many under-21 games as we can and we saw Norwich, Reading and Oxford between us the day before.

“We watch a lot of under-21s football trying to find the best young players because when you are working on limited resources you have to try to use the loan market well when you need to.

“We have three key injuries at the moment and have a lot of games coming up so we need to make sure we have bodies.

“We’re pleased they have come in and we’re pleased they made an impact.”
