Witham Cricket Club captain Jake Wakelin hopes his team get the full credit for what they have been achieving in the early part of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship season.

With the halfway stage of the division one campaign rapidly approaching, Witham are well poised at third in the table after beating all of the other three sides in the top four in the few months.

Their latest success came with a five-wicket win against second-placed Mildenhall last weekend and Wakelin hopes that people appreciate how well his team are doing in a league that has current and former County Cricket players regularly lining up.

Wakelin said: “We are over-achieving at the moment compared to what we have done in the last couple of years when we were learning to play at this level.

“I just hope people give us credit for the standard of cricket that we are playing and how well we are doing.

“In the last four weeks we have beaten the other three sides in the top four – Wivenhoe, Sudbury and now Mildenhall.

“They are three really strong teams."

Witham are due to head to Mistley today.
