Rhys Hayden was a winner in all four of the events held on the Braintree Open Darts League’s finals night at Braintree Town Football Club.

Cressing’s Hayden and Steve Prow, of the Retreat, faced each other in the last competition of the evening in a best-of-nine legs men’s singles match and it started with Prow on the front foot as he won the first leg against the darts.

Hayden quickly levelled and maintained that to go 2-1 ahead, but the tight contest continued with Prow taking out a 32 out shot under pressure.

However, he was unable to land the double top that would have completed a 120 out shot in the fifth leg and Hayden capitalised before moving to within one leg of victory as he opened a two-leg gap in the next.

Prow did narrow that in the seventh leg, but the Cressing man hit 140, 131 and 136 in the eighth and finished on double four to secure the singles title.

The evening had started with the fours final between Notley’s Stewart Thorogood, Graham Chinnery, Ted Ullmer and Lee Bentley and the Cressing quartet of Rhys Hayden, Sam Hayden, Tony Bamsey and Shane Smith.

With Cressing hitting their doubles, they had the match won and were fours champions.

The mixed pairs had Cressing’s Rhys and Tracie Hayden up against Braintree Football Club’s Lynn Kelly and Matt Baker and in another high-scoring match as the Haydens hit their doubles, they secured the win.

Prow and his Retreat team-mate John Abbott attempted to halt Rhys Hayden’s charge as they face the Cressing player and Sam Hayden in the men’s pairs final.

Maximum 180s from both teams in the opening game set the scene for a high-scoring match, but the Cressing duo had the advantage as they took the first three legs.

Abbott and Prow did come back in the fourth but the Haydens found the double they needed to wrap up the pairs title in the fifth.
