It was looking rosy for higher-handicapped players as the annual Rose Bowl competition was played at Braintree Golf Club.

Greg North made light of the dull and damp conditions to top the leaderboard with 42 points off his 16 handicap, while fellow 16-handicapper, Ian Davis, finished second with 41.

Countback was needed to decide third and fourth places, with Paul Vale, off 17, edging ahead of Gareth Olney, off nine, after both had 40 points.

There were fine conditions at Stisted for the Seniors’ Guest Day fourball betterball competition.

Appropriately, the winners were Braintree senior captain Jim Rowe and his guest Malcolm Taylor, from Clacton, with 41 points.

They finished one ahead of David Yates and his guest J Williams. In third place were Mike Saffill and T Clarke with 39 points, while Michael Collard and G Jordan and Mike Banthorpe and P Neal were fourth and fifth respectively with 38.

The nearest the pin prizes both went to Braintree players – to Ray Jenkyn on the seventh and Rod Booth on the tenth.
