The Steve Mason Open was hosted by the Kelvedon club on their Seabrooks Reservoir at Great Leighs and was fished in ideal conditions with Gary Spong’s technique keeping him ahead of his 23 rivals.

Braintree’s Spong fished the method feeder tight to the island on peg 22 and was rewarded with nine carp for the day’s top weight of 60-6-0.

Stuart Wright (Kelvedon) was two pegs away and had the end of the island, which produced 49-14-0 of carp for second place, with Gary Tisshaw (Braintree) weighing 38-0-8 in third.

The Silver Fish section was won by Pete Thompson (Team Fennes Fisheries) from peg 21 with 26-6-0.

Second was Bob Percival (Braintree) with 19-11-0 and John Daniels (Braintree) weighed 17-9-8 for third.

The Braintree Club evening matches are being dominated by Chris Orrin.

He won round four on Hill and Black, where he weighed 59-0-0 of carp and bream from peg 13 from his father, Mark, who took second with 46-12-0.

Chris followed it up with a win in round five at Notley with 16-4-0 of mainly small carp, just one fish ahead of Jim Loosley, who weighed 15-5-0 in second.

The Sunday Sweep at Notley also saw Chris put 14-4-0 on the scales to take the win.

Section winners were Loosley with 12-7-0 and Mark Orrin with 11-3-0.

Loosley won the Friday Sweep with the top weight so far this season of 30-10-0.

Bob Percival weighed 21-14-0 to take second place.
