The Swan’s victory at the Legends brought double delight for the visitors in the Braintree Open Darts League.

The triples match saw honours shared as did the opening two singles, but with the Swan winning the next five, they had the singles won, to claim the title in that competition and their win in the overall match means they are league championship runners-up.

Despite their 2-1 pairs defeat, Legends were confirmed as pairs competition runners-up.

Braintree Football Club started with a ladies’ competition win at the Retreat, before the hosts took the pairs, triples and singles 5-2 for overall match victory.

A draw in the ladies’ match between Cressing and Wethersfield B confirmed Wethersfield as ladies runners-up.

That was followed by a 2-1 win for Wethersfield in the pairs and a triples win for Cressing that kept them in contention for runners-up spot in that contest if they win their outstanding match against Braintree FC.

Richard Pryke’s victory then gave Cressing the singles victory and the overall match win.

Wethersfield A won their ladies’ match against Notley Sports but they lost the pairs before holding the visitors to a draw in the triples.

Wins for Dave Islip and Ted Ullmer in the opening two singles saw Notley take the advantage, before Clint Barrett pulled one back for Wethersfield but Graham Chinnery, Barry Gilby and Stewart Thorogood wrapped up singles and overall match honours for Notley.

The Queen’s Head opened with a win in the ladies at Bocking and they drew the triples, but the hosts dominated the pairs and singles for overall victory.

There was also a triples draw at the Welsh Princess as they faced the Eagle, who won the ladies and pairs and picked up match victory with late singles wins for Steve Arnold and Kevin Byrne.

Byrne, Colin Barnard, Thorogood, Barrett, Nicky Mynard, Steve Prow, Steve O’Neiland, Chris Holden, Tony Bamsey and Dave Islip all hit 180s, Matt Last completed a 100 out shot and Tony Tatum had a 17-dart leg with a 94 out shot.
