Braintree Golf Club crashed out of the Thornton Cup when they were beaten 12½-2½ by defending champions Chelmsford.

In difficult conditions at Chelmsford, the home side took all five morning foursomes although three games were decided on the 18th and another on the 17th.

Braintree fought hard in the afternoon singles, with the first four games finishing all square, but Chelmsford ran out worthy winners in the end.

Braintree’s half points were secured by James Hedger, Robin Butcher, Ed Fullalove, Todd Clements and Jack Jordan.

At Stisted, the BMW Stableford was won by Derrick Farrell with 41 points off a handicap of 14. He finished a point ahead of John O’Connor and James Bussell, with seven-handicapper O’Connor taking second spot on countback from his six-handicap rival.
