Rivenhall's Sydney Wilson got his life on the World Snooker Tour off to a winning start.
The 25-year-old, who is orginally from Southend, only earned his place in the top flight of world snooker by earning a Tour card at Qualifying School last month and made his debut appearance in the Australian Goldfields Open Qualifiers at the K2 Leisure Centre in Crawley today.
He won his first-round match against Oliver Brown 5-2, but had to come back after losing the opening two frames.
Having edged the first frame, Brown then completed a 52 break to open up a gap, however, Wilson, who has played for Stepfield Snooker Club in the AG Glass Braintree and District Snooker League, hit back by taking the next five.
That included him making breaks of 76, 63 and 51 as he set up a second round clash against Jack Lisowski.
