Witham Town chairman Jamie Baker says the club can use what it has learned from a year in the top flight of the Ryman League to make it stronger in the future.

The club’s premier division status is set to come to an end at the end of this season after their 2-0 defeat by Metropolitan Police last weekend confirmed they can’t now escape the bottom three in the table.

The club knew it was always going to be a big challenge to stay up after their historic move from division one north last year, but even though it has ended in failure, Baker feels there is plenty to take from the experience at the highest level they have ever been at.

He said: “We’ve done everything off the pitch in terms of the (ground) grading and the guys have tried their hardest on it but we go back into the Ryman One North now and look to rebuild.

“We’ll look to get the team back to where they were and hopefully try to win that next year.

“We can definitely use what we’ve learned this year.

“Going up into the Ryman Premier is a massive step from division one north football.

“You only have to look at players who have left like Jamie Guy and Shami (Pedulu) who have dropped into Ryman One North and are doing it there but they couldn’t do it in the Ryman Prem.

“Garry (Kimble) has had a lot of players go through the season and he has said himself that he has had a few areas where he has messed up.

“We’ve been relegated and now we just have to regroup as a club and plan for next season.

“But there are some good sides in the Ryman One North so it’s going to be a good test.

"If we can get back into the premier then we’ll give it another go.”
