Braintree Bullets BMX Club hit the ground running in the East Anglian Summer Regional Series and have taken a four-point lead after the first round at Milton Keynes.

The club fielded 44 riders out of the 200 entries and saw a number of class wins across all age groups.

Getting the ball rolling for the Bullets was Freia Challis, racing up against the seven-year boys.

She put up a great fight, winning one of her heats and saw off all but one of the boys in the final to take second place, while Thomas Richardson was eighth.

Joseph Long made his way to the B final of the eight-years and finished second.

Long’s brother, Charlie, also rode in the under-sevens novice class, finishing fourth and just behind Ollie Cates in third.

Bullets swamped the next two classes and Josh Cates battled for the lead in the final but had to settle for second on the line, while Henry Rowe took fourth and Harley Pattle sixth.

Eddie Cannons took third in the B final after a slip up in the semi-final with Archie Bartlett in fifth.

The first win for the Bullets came from Adam Gilbert in the tens as he went unbeaten all day, with Ewan Thomson taking third, Cameron Parrish fourth, Joseph Harris sixth and Zak Acteson-Rook seventh.

The nine to ten girls had Amelia Parrish riding with a new found confidence and she claimed the class win, with Molly Richardson in third.

The 11 to 12s combined class had saw a gutsy performance from Joe Little for fourth in the A final and Alex Doree was second in the B final.

In the equivalent girls’ class, Molly Nice finished fourth with Roxy Hinton seventh and Abbey Pattle won the B final.

The winning ways continued for the Bullets in the 13 to 14s as 12-year-old Sydney Allen showed a touch of class as he jumped his way to the class win, only dropping one lap on his way.

Hayden Challis took a clear third, with Matt Goodwins fifth and Alfie Giles seventh in the A final, while Tom Stokes was third in the B final with Thomas Knight fourth.

Charlie O’Grady was the sole Bullet riding up in the 16s and he stole the show with a strong class win.

The Championship female class saw Kelsey Dixon take second to back up her win in the ladies’ cruiser class.

Teresa Challis had a fifth place and Clare Richardson was seventh.

In the combined men’s cruisers, Dave Pattle had a third in the B final as Kev Harris finished sixth.

The 17 to 24 class had the over-30 masters and over-40 vets in the mix too and Braintree lead coach Julian Allen showed the young guns a trick or two as the 41-year-old rode to a strong third-place finish in the A final among the younger riders.

Stu Dixon also got back on track after a lay-off and fought in the B final for sixth place.

The superclass saw Braintree bring the curtain down on a great event with another win as Oli Cutmore, who had won his class in the cruisers earlier in the day, took a dominant A final victory.

Josh Butson had to settle for fifth, with Ollie Rowe sixth and Taylor Andrews eighth after he slid out in the last corner.

Shane Redgewell won the class B final.
