Lawrence Yiga insists that Witham Town’s players are staying positive in their battle to beat Ryman League premier division relegation.

Witham know they are in a perilous position as they are now five points from safety with three games left to play following draws over Easter against Dulwich Hamlet and Canvey Island.

However, centre-half Yiga feels they will go to Tonbridge Angels for a potentially key fixture today keeping faith that they can stay up this year.

Yiga said: “We believe that we’re not going to go down.

“That’s the aim and from what I’ve seen of the team, we’re not a side that is playing like it’s near the bottom.

“I think we’re a side that can compete easily in the top half of the table.

“The spirit is there as we feel that we’re not going down.

“It’s there 110 per cent.

“I know it was another draw at Canvey, but we look at it as another point gained rather than two lost.

“It could be the one that keeps us up.

“The aim is to not lose and to pick up as many points as we can.

“If we go in with that mentality there is no fear factor.

“The manager says just play and to not worry about anything going on off the pitch.

“That’s what we have been doing.

“It’s now a massive game on Saturday.

“But we go in there with the same tactics to get the ball down and play.

“It’s at Tonbridge’s ground which will help us as it will be a decent surface to play whereas ours is really tough to play on at the moment.”
