Matt Paine insists there’ll be no late-season slacking from Braintree Town as they go for a maximum points haul from their remaining Vanarama Conference Premier games.
The Iron bounced back from a disappointing start to their Easter weekend – when they were beaten 3-1 by Lincoln City on Good Friday – by winning at Nuneaton Town on Monday.
That victory, their first after three back-to-back defeats, made Braintree mathematically safe for a fourth year in the top-flight of non-league football as they took their season’s points tally to 52, but there will be no resting on laurels for the Iron.
Paine said the players know they are need to perform to ensure they are part of manager Alan Devonshire’s plans next year and they will target further wins starting with today’s home game against Aldershot Town and then Tuesday’s trip to Southport.
Paine said: “No-one has anything sorted yet and we’re playing for places next year.
“We don’t want to end the season on a poor run so four games and we’re looking for four results.
“It’s so important to take something positive into the summer and that’s something we’ve said among ourselves.
“We don’t want to look at our position and think that we’re safe. We have to take each game as an important one and go out to win it.
“It’s vitally important to end the season on a high and then we’ll come back fresh and on a positive note rather than letting it peter out and heading negatively into the summer and just thinking about it over the summer.
“We’ll head into the next few games with a positive attitude and hopefully see what comes from them.”
