Ryan Charles says Witham Town’s players know exactly what is required of them in a week that manager Garry Kimble has dubbed as “one of the most important in the club’s history”.

The 19-year-old Town midfielder scored a wonderful goal to open their 3-1 Ryman League premier division win against Harrow Borough on Tuesday as they built on confidence-boosting draws against leaders Maidstone United and Canvey Island in the previous two games.

Those five points from three games have lifted Witham back out of the relegation zone, but the job is far from done and Kimble is demanding a further six points from two more home games in the next few days. They host Peacehaven and Telscombe at the Village Glass Stadium on Saturday, before Tonbridge Angels are the visitors on Tuesday and Charles knows what is expected.

He said: “It was massive to get the three points against Harrow Borough.

“That battle at the bottom is tough and a result like that is everything we need at the moment.

“It’s always going to be hard to get points off the bigger teams, so it’s vital to get points off the lower sides.

“We are fully aware of the situation.

“We know we have to roll our sleeves up and get on with it. Nine points are what we need this week – we all know that."
