Heybridge Swifts snatched a late victory in a seven-goal thriller at Aveley.

Two goals in the final six minutes Saw Swifts secure a 4-3 Ryman League division one north victory.

After a bright start by Swifts it was Aveley who went closest to opening the scoring when Jack Stevenson chipped Danny Sambridge in the Heybridge goal but his 40-yard effort rebounded off the bar. Petrit Elbi, in front of goal, then headed the ball wide.

But it was Heybridge that took the lead when Aaron Gayle smashed home from the edge of the box on 17 minutes.

However, that lead didn’t last long as Billy Holland made it 1-1 almost straight away.

Stevenson then had a chance to take the lead but his run into the box ended with a shot into the side netting.

After a period of pressure from Aveley it looked like they would take the lead when Theo Ola’s effort was curling into the top corner.

However, a magnificent diving full-length save from Sambridge kept the ball out.

And Sambridge was called on again as he dived to push away Stevenson’s shot on the turn on 36 minutes.

The Aveley pressure finally paid off when Junior Baker scored four minutes later.

However, Heybridge got back into the game when Billy Hunt fired in off the post, following a corner, on 43 minutes.

But it was Aveley who struck back after the break.

Elbi made it 3-2, on 56 minutes, from 25 yards after being set up by Mathias Bakare.

Ola then went close to extending the lead but is good run into the box ended with his shot just going wide.

With the game heading into the final minutes Heybridge threw everything at the Aveley defence.

And they finally made the breakthrough when, from a quick free-kick, Hunt fired home the equaliser.

And it got worse for Aveley as they were reduced to ten men when Spencer Harrison was sent off.

With a point in the bag for the home side they were then stunned as Reece Morgan hit the winner in the 97th minute of the game.

Maldon and Tiptree fell to a 1-0 defeat at AFC Sudbury.

They were undone by a Ryan Henshaw first-half goal on 16 minutes.

It was an exciting finish to Brightlingsea Regent’s match against visiting Waltham Abbey.

Abbey left it late to take the lead against when James Peagram made it 1-0 on 75 minutes.

But at the death Regent secured a share of the spoils when Russell Malton equalised on 90 minutes.

Burnham Ramblers fell to defeat at high-flying Dereham Town.

The visitors took an early lead at Leslie Field when Olly Willis scored on seven minutes.

And it got worse for Ramblers five minutes later when Michael Clunan made it 2-0.

Witham Town lost out 3-2 at Wingate and Finchley in the Ryman premier division.

The visitors fell behind to an early goal as Wingate’s Scott Shulton scored on seven minutes.

And the deficit was increased by Mark Goodman 13 minutes later.

To make matters worse Rob Laney made it 3-0 just before half-time when he scored on 44 minutes.

Witham pulled a goal back through a Bobby Smith own goal on 61 minutes.

Lewis Godbold then threw Witham a lifeline on 75 minutes when he struck to make it 3-2.

However, Witham couldn’t do enough to take a point from the game.
