Alan Devonshire won’t be telling his Braintree Town players to go gung ho in search of goals.

The Iron manager admits that his team haven’t been scoring as freely as he or their fans would like, with just five goals coming in their last nine games.

However, Devonshire won’t be changing the way his team plays as he feels they are still creating ample opportunities and doesn’t want a cavalier approach when they host Torquay United in the Vanrama Conference Premier tomorrow.

“We have to stay patient and play to the game that we know,” he said.

“There’s no need us trying to force things and flooding men forward looking for goals and getting caught at the back.

“We are creating chances and I said to the players that apart from the Welling game, we have played well in the last four or five games.

“I think how well we have done in the last few years means people expect a lot of us but it’s not necessarily going to happen every year.

“I’ve already said about people getting a reality check.

“We aren’t getting turned over by three or four goals, we have been in every game and the only thing that hasn’t been working is that we haven’t been scoring as freely as we’d like.

“But we have been making chances, so I’m not worried.

“If we weren’t making chances then it would be a problem, but we are.”
