Alex Lynn is “very confident” that he will be involved with a Formula One team next year.

While he knows a 2015 race seat is looking unlikely, the newly-crowned GP3 Series champion from Dunmow is hoping to secure a position as a reserve driver with an F1 team with the possibility of racing at the pinnacle of motorsport in 2016.

He has raced in and won the GP3 Series this year as part of the Red Bull Junior Programme, but is unclear whether he will stay within that in 2015 and is looking to take a move that will secure his long-term position as an F1 driver and potential future World Champion.

He told the Times: “I’m looking to compete in F1 with a team that can help me win the World Championship and I’m looking for what gives me the best opportunity.

“I’m in a position where I could have a good chance with good opportunities.

“I’m looking to hopefully get a reserve driver role (with a Formula One team in 2015) as a race driver role is looking like it won’t be possible.

“I’m looking for a long-term thing with a team that will allow me to grow to become a team leader and challenge for the World Championship."
