Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire was pleased to see some of his first-team players get important run-outs as the Iron cruised into the fourth round of the Essex Senior Cup.

A brace of goals for Mitch Brundle and one apiece for Jordan Cox, Steve Smith and reserve team striker Regan Pelling delivered a 5-0 win for Braintree in their third round tie at Tilbury.

Devonshire took a first-team training session rather than be at the game, but was pleased that players got game-time to help them back from injuries.

He said: “Jordan Cox and Dan Walker have been injured and they needed the time out there, while Steve Smith and Mitch Brundle will also have benefited from getting 90 minutes.

“From that respect, it was a useful game to have had.”
