The Cancer Research Open on the Fennes Ash Grounds and Hobbs Croft lakes resulted in a very close finish, but it was Peter Pound who weighed in with the top haul.

Several anglers lost carp that could have changed the finishing order, but Colne Angling Club members again did well and for the second Open running, it was one of their members in first place.

Drawn on Ash Grounds 33 and fishing the method feeder with dead maggots, Pound landed eight carp to give him the day’s top weight of 48-0-0.

England feeder man Dickie Carr used his skills to good effect, taking second place with 43-8-0 from Hobbs Croft, but was only just ahead of Julian Collop (Bills Tackle), who weighed 43-0-0 on Ash Grounds.

There was a tie for fourth between Glen Cousins and Alan Hart with 41-0-0 each.

Silver fish weights also resulted in a tie with 18-0-0 between Jim Loosley (Braintree) and Alan Hartrell.
