With three matches to go this year only ten points separate Robin Joy and Paul Drake to see who will be Braintree Sea Angling Club’s top beach angler for the year.

A damp Dungeness was the venue for the latest match, when, despite the constant rain, all the anglers caught a few whiting and dabs.

However, this fabled cod venue failed to live up to its reputation with only one cod being caught. It was a fine fish of 9lb 4oz, though, and fell to Chris Leonard.

Together with eight whiting and two dabs, the cod gave him 558 fish points to take the match and probably the Cod Cup.

Runner-up, with 11 whiting and four dabs for 195 fish points, was Drake to keep him in a strong position for the overall standings, while third place went to Barrie Senior with 13 whiting and two dabs for 161 fish points.

The next match is scheduled for Sunday at Orfordness where the anglers will be fishing for the Braintree and Witham Times Cup.
