Charlie Strutton will be looking after himself this week to make sure he is ready for Braintree Town’s Vanarama Conference Premier trip to AFC Telford United on Saturday.

The 25-year-old made his first start since joining the Iron permanently last summer and capped it with a goal in their 1-0 win against Wrexham last week to end the team’s ten-game winless league run and 620 minutes of Conference Premier football without a goal.

Strutton had had to be patient to get his first start as boss Alan Devonshire wanted to make sure of his fitness as he continues his comeback from a broken leg sustained while on loan at Aldershot from AFC Wimbledon last year ahead of joining the Iron.

He is keen to get more starts now, but knows he will have to manage his recovery between games.

Strutton said: “It’s important for me to get game time.

“I’ve been out and I need to just get minutes, but I’m over the moon to be starting again.

“I got a bit tired in the second half but the manager knew when to take me off and I feel fine after it.

“The recovery is going to be really important for me, but I’ll look after myself this week and hopefully get more game time at Telford.”
