Luke Callander hopes Witham Town will be the perfect fit for him.

The Chelmsford City striker has joined the Ryman League premier division side on a month’s loan spell as he looks to rebuild his fitness following a hamstring injury and he feels it couldn’t be a better place for him to go.

The 29-year-old former Heybridge Swifts forward was a prolific goal scorer during his time in the Ryman League before securing a move to Conference South side Chelmsford.

And after making a scoring debut in their premier division game against Kingstonian on Tuesday, he feels the way Witham play can help him find the target plenty more times during his loan stay.

He said: “I’ve missed the last three or four weeks with a hamstring injury and was playing with a thigh injury before that, which probably led to the hamstring problem.

“So I haven’t been fit for a while and with Chelmsford doing well recently, chances to get back into the side have been limited.

“At the age I am and the stage of my career, you just want to be playing as much as possible, so I’ve come to Witham to get my match fitness back."
