Alex Lynn has said he is doing everything he can to try to get a drive in Formula One next year with the Toro Rosso team.

As a member of the Red Bull Junior Programme, the 21-year-old from Dunmow is one of the drivers who could get the call to move up into the F1 team for the 2015 season after developments earlier today in their driver line-ups.

And he told the Times that he is working hard to convince team bosses that he should be the one who gets that call.

Since joined the Red Bull Junior Programme, Lynn has proved extremely impressive in dominating the GP3 Series this year and could wrap up the 2014 title in Sochi next weekend with one round of the championship still to go.

With GP3 being a proven stepping stone into Red Bull’s Formula One drives, the Essex man hopes he has put himself in a good position already.

Lynn said: “I’ve been talking to people and seeing what can be done to hopefully get myself into that Toro Rosso position.

“I’ll certainly be doing everything I can to be the one who gets promoted.”

Red Bull made a surprise announcement at the Japanese Grand Prix earlier today with the news that four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel would be leaving them at the end of this season.

And they also said that Danill Kyvat would be moving from their junior Toro Rosso team into Vettel’s place within the more senior Red Bull team, which leaves a vacant place in the Toro Rosso line-up.

Lynn hopes that it will be him who is chosen, but he faces stiff competition for a coveted Formula One drive, with fellow Red Bull Junior Programme driver Carlos Sainz Jr also believed to be in the running.
