Braintree take a point off the Bulls
6:45pm Saturday 13th October 2012 in Sport By Simon Spurgeon
Sean Marks hit the post late on at Hereford.
Braintree Town made sure they completed a good week against former Football League opponents with a battling point at Hereford United.
Having beaten Luton Town 3-2 in the week, the Iron held the Bulls to a stalemate to make it four Blue Square Bet Premier points from six on the road.
The game saw Iron boss Alan Devonshire hand a debut to defender Alan Massey in the centre of the back line just two days after he had joined from Wealdstone.
He contributed to only Braintree’s third clean sheet of the campaign as both sides cancelled each other out over the 90 minutes, but both had chances towards the end of the game.
Hereford thought they had taken the lead but their goal was ruled out for off-side, while Sean Marks thundered a header off the post from James Mulley’s clever pass just afterwards.
However, the chances went begging and Braintree now look forward to a fourth qualifying round FA Cup tie at the Amlin Stadium on Saturday against Lowestoft.
