Braintree Town have confirmed that the signing of central defender Alan Massey has now been finalised.
The 23-year-old form Wycombe Wanderers player has joined the Iron from Ryman League premier division side Wealdstone and will be available for Saturday’s Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Hereford.
Massey, who was the Stones’ player-of-the-year in the 2008/9 season, will help to provide cover for the injured Dean Wells, who is likely to be out for the next four to six weeks after dislocating his shoulder against Barrow last weekend.
Massey’s signing was completed at training on Thursday and Braintree boss Alan Devonshire was pleased to secure the addition of a player who he has been tracking for some time.
He said: “Alan is a player I’ve long admired and will help us in the short-term with additional defensive cover and also long-term in providing more competition for places in the back four.
“I’m delighted he’s taken this opportunity to join us and I’m confident he’ll do really well for us.”
Devonshire added that another of his centre-halves, Matt Paine, would be having his fitness assessed ahead of the trip to face the Bulls after taking a blow on his ankle during the 3-2 win at Luton Town in midweek.
