Devonshire denies Massey's signing is a done deal
Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire has denied that Wealdstone defender Alan Massey has signed for the Iron.
Reports have suggested that the 23-year-old centre-half has already joined Braintree, but Devonshire denied that was the case and said he hoped to have a permanent deal signed at training on Thursday.
Devonshire said: “I don’t know where this has come out from, but nothing has been sorted yet.
“I don’t want to say too much because it may not go through.
“Hopefully it will, but I don’t want to tempt fate by saying it’s a done deal or anything.”
Massey has been at Wealdstone for four years after joining from Wycombe Wanderers and has made more than 200 appearances for the Ryman League premier division club.
Devonshire said he has been tracking Massey for about a year and is keen to bring him on board ahead of Saturday’s Blue Square Bet Premier trip to Hereford United.
If the deal goes ahead as hoped, Massey will provide extra cover at the back while Dean Wells continues his comeback from a dislocated shoulder.
