Now "ecstatic" Witham have added the title to promotion glory

Witham's cricketers crack open the bubbly as they celebrate their glorious tilte-winning campaign. Witham's cricketers crack open the bubbly as they celebrate their glorious tilte-winning campaign.

Witham Cricket Club chairman John Chick feels the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two title is a just reward for their homegrown players this year.

Having sealed promotion to the top flight seven days previously, Witham firsts made sure they would end the summer sitting top of division two with a three-wicket win against Worlington at The Park.

Their 19-point haul kept them one point clear of second-placed Hadleigh, who kept Witham on their toes with a 66-run victory at Braintree.

It not only brought a highly-successful season to a close for captain Kaan Hawes and his team, but saw the culmination of years of hard work.

Chick said: “The club is ecstatic.
“It is 13 years since we have been up in the top flight and to get the chance to play there again, with the homegrown boys that we have is fantastic.

“Ten of the 11 on Saturday came through our colts and I think that makes it even more of an achievement.

“The way they have done it is a credit to them as they have had such a good team spirit and work ethic."
