John Watson is set to make his Witham Town comeback after missing the start of the season with a frustrating summer injury.

The Town striker has missed the early part of the campaign, including Saturday’s 2-1 FA Trophy defeat at Crawley Down Gatwick, due to an ankle injury.

But he may feature in Saturday’s Ryman League division one north home game against Ilford (kick-off 3pm) and manager Garry Kimble says his return will be a boost on and off the pitch.

Kimble said: “John should be fit for this week.

“He played in the reserves on Saturday and came through that OK.

“His ankle felt a bit stiff over the next couple of days, but he should be fine for this weekend and that’s great because we have missed him.

“He’s great to have around the dressing room and his play on the pitch has been a great miss.”

Kimble said he has no fresh injury concerns and Rhys Darg may also make his debut against Ilford after the Leiston loanee was unable to play in the Trophy game due to FA paperwork not being processed in time.

Following Saturday's game at Spa Road, Witham have arranged a home friendly match against neighbours Chelmsford City on Tuesday.

The game against the Blue Square Bet South side will kick-off at 7.45pm at Spa Road.
