Braintree Town manager Alan Devonshire has been frank in admitting that he got his choice of substitutes wrong last weekend.

A 2-0 defeat at Mansfield Town saw the Iron without a win from their last three Blue Square Bet Premier outings ahead of Saturday’s home fixture against Stockport County.

Manager Devonshire admitted he had made an error as his bench options looked thin and hampered efforts to get anything from their trip to the Stags.

Josh Dawkin and Pat O’Connor were Devonshire’s only fit outfield substitutes, with an injured Sam Habergham unable to play.

“That was my fault,” said the Iron boss.

“I didn’t realise that Sam wasn’t going to be fit and the same with Kenny Davis as well.

“They both travelled and I thought they would be OK, but it became apparent that they wouldn’t.

“It was my mistake, but I don’t like taking people to games just for the sake of it, so unfortunately we didn’t have any more cover up there when we realised Sam and Kenny wouldn’t be fit.

“Sam had a tight hamstring and Kenny had had the problem with his shin, but hopefully they will both be OK for this weekend.”
