One more push to seal promotion glory

Kaan Hawes. Kaan Hawes.

Witham Cricket Club know just one more good performance could see them end their season with promotion delight.

A 47-run win against Hadleigh saw Witham regain top spot in division one of the Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship with just two games to go.

And Kaan Hawes team now need only 16 points to seal a move into the top flight, with Saturday’s trip to Ipswich and East Suffolk offering them a great chance of achieving that at the first time of asking.

Skipper Hawes told the Times: “We’ll treat it just like we have all games this season and take it as just another game.

“I think in the game against Braintree (two weeks ago) we put too much emphasis on beating them as it was a local derby, but we have to relax and enjoy it like we did last week at Hadleigh.

“If we play as well as I know we are capable of doing, then I’m confident we can win.

“We won’t beat teams if we don’t perform, but I know if we perform than we can get the result we need.

“The team should be the same as everyone is available again and we’ll hope to get the job done this week.

“It would be nice to head into the last game with promotion sealed.
“I just want to go up to get us to the highest level that a club like ours can realistically get to.”
