Alan Devonshire says the Braintree Town door is open for Jamie Guy to make a return to the Amlin Stadium.

Guy has left the Iron to join Ryman League division one north side Maldon and Tiptree on a permanent deal as he looks to rebuild his career after breaking his leg in two places 18 months ago.

However, Devonshire insists it may not be the last that fans see of the former Colchester United striker in a Braintree Town shirt.

Guy missed almost the entire campaign last year as he worked his way back to fitness after the horrific double fracture to his leg at Eastleigh in the Iron’s Blue Square Bet South promotion season in February 2011.

He made eight appearances at the end of the campaign last year and a goal in the 4-0 win at Barrow raised hopes that he would feature more prominently this season.

However, an ankle injury curtailed any pre-season involvement and Devonshire has decided to let the 25-year-old go to get back to playing regular football.

Devonshire said: “Jamie phoned me and said he was going to sign for Maldon and that’s fine as he needs to play.

“He needs games at a lower level to get his confidence up and get his fitness up and he’s always welcome back here.

“I think he is there for the season, but the door is always open here.”
