Iron prepare to meet the Irons

Lee Harding. Lee Harding.

Braintree Town have confirmed that they will face a side from Premier League new boys West Ham at the Amlin Stadium next month.

Iron manager and West Ham legend Alan Devonshire has been trying to organise the game for several months and the club have now been told by the Hammers that they will be able to send a side for a game on Monday, September 10.

At the moment, the strength of the team that West Ham will send has not been confirmed, but chairman Lee Harding said that would be fixed closer to the time.

He told the Times: “It has been confirmed that we will be playing a West Ham devslopment side and it is possible that there will be some first-team players included.

“That week there is an international break for Premier League teams and as a result West Ham won’t have a game the weekend before.

“So it is possible they may wish to play more first-team players to give them a run-out.

“Alan Devonshire has contacts at West Ham and it’s possible that a stronger side may come, but at this time there can be no guarantee of that.

We won’t know until nearer the time, but regardless of that it is still a particularly prestigious game and we’re looking forward to it.”

Harding added that ticket prices for the game would be decided closer to the time and would reflect the strength of the side that the Hammers send.
