Braintree Town surrendered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with relegation-threatened Lewes.
Goals from Sean Marks and top-scorer George Purcell had given Iron the advantage, at the Dripping Pan ground.
But the Rooks responded well and salvaged a draw with a late equaliser, leaving Robbie Garvey's side three points off second place, in Blue Square South.
Braintree played some of their best football of the season in the first half.
They took the lead after six minutes when the unchallenged Marks headed in at the far post, following a fine cross from the impressive Reece Harris.
Iron doubled their lead on 28 minutes through Purcell, who sprinted from just inside his own half and skipped past two defenders before firing in.
Braintree had chances to extend their lead but Lewes got back into the game just before half-time through Joe Keehan, whose downward header evaded keeper Craig Holloway.
Boosted by the goal, Lewes improved in the second half.
Holloway saved Ross Sutton's powerful effort on 54 minutes but Purcell might have wrapped up Iron's victory with nine minutes to go when he shot into the side-netting.
Holloway made a fine save to deny Sutton header before Lewes equalised with four minutes to go, thanks to Keehan's dipping effort that flew in from the edge of the box.
