Quinton - we can still lift title crown

Club stalwart Brad Quinton believes in-form Braintree Town can still catch this season’s runaway Blue Square South leaders Newport County.

The Iron head to struggling Lewes on Saturday unbeaten in 11 matches.

Robbie Garvey’s side are currently 20 points behind Newport in the table.

However, sixth-placed Braintree have two games in hand on the Exiles and have still to play them twice in the league, before the end of the season.

Midfielder Quinton, who has impressed on his return to the side, has insisted that Iron have not given up hope of catching Dean Holdsworth’s side.

Quinton told the Times: “We still think we can win the league and it’s still in our hands.

“There are teams out there who fear us.

“We have games in hand on all of the teams above us in the table and we’ll be pushing to finish as high as we possibly can.

“We’re well aware of what we have to do.

“We still have Newport County and Dover Athletic to play home and away."

Could someone explain the bit about it still being in Braintree's hands.

It would only be in Braintree's hands if everyone other championship contender had played 42 games and they somehow had enough games in hand to get more points than all of them!
