Black and Ambers snatch late victory

Braintree Rugby Club bounced back from their miserable display at Ipswich seven days earlier to snatch a late 17-15 victory against a plucky West Mersea side, in London League division two north east.

But once again they did not start firing on all cylinders until they had gone behind, putting their long suffering supporters through an all-too familiar mangle once again.

Braintree chairman of selectors Jeff Lewis said: “It was a bit of a nail-biter.

“We always seem to want to do things the hard way.

“We only ever seem to start playing once our backs are to the wall. I can’t put my finger on why. We deserved the win in the end but sometimes it was painful to watch.”
