Witham slump to defeat

Witham lie second from bottom in Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship division two after crashing to a seven-wicket defeat at Easton.

Witham’s problems began before the match, after six of their players got lost on their way to the ground and they arrived an hour after the start.

Youngsters Duncan Jenkinson and Jamie Rogers opened the innings as a result.

Jenkinson was out for ten with the score at 16 but Leroy Facey joined Rogers at the crease.

They steadied the ship and without any major problems, raised the score to 93.

But Facey was out for 36 and only two more runs were added before Rogers was caught off the bowling of King.

Kaan Hawes made a useful contribution of 24 and Witham’s lower order batsmen once again failed to make any useful scores, losing their last five wickets for 20 runs.

W Mitchell with three for 53 and R King (four for 26) were Easton’s most successful bowlers.

Paul Bellehewe bowled nine accurate overs to claim figures of one for 31 and Matt McKendry also claimed a wicket.

But they could not prevent Witham from slipping to a seven-wicket defeat.
